About: a bit about me

Fliss Quick (b. 1978, Sheffield, UK) has just landed somewhere new (Wellington, NZ) and hasn't yet worked out which cupboard the mugs go in.

Her work is object-based, observational, anecdotal, situational, and performative. She is interested in people, the everyday, idiosyncrasies, and rules. Humour is important too.

Being, or at least appearing to be, 'normal' has guided how I've shown up in the world. So has its friend wrongness.

When I turn my head to the side and squint to look at my work, they are there, cross-legged, surrounded by all the other bits and bobs that make up my practice.

My work asks what is and what isn't normal. And then, rather than observing these gaps from a distance, I climb into them.

My practice catches my misunderstanding, inadequacy, embarrassment, absurdity and literal-mindedness. And then demands I enact them anyway, following these thoughts to their physical conclusion.

Sometimes I work in character. Sometimes the character is just me.
