My first meeting with Oxford, was through the 1980s dectective series 'Morse'. The two are indivisable in my mind. It was seemingly enevitable then, that (for this series of works) I set about, as a detective might, walking the streets of Oxford looking for clues to the stories being played out in this city.
As is often a common theme in my work, the word play kept me amused.
‘Donning Oxford’ was an exhibition co-curated between myself and Tamsin Leighton-Boyce and Natalie Smith. We were interested to bring together makers whose works collectively might describe the complexity of a place beyond the sum of its streets, landmarks and the widely held notions on its culture.
‘Donning Oxford’ looked to prompt its artists and audience alike to re-evaluate relationships with the city and to explore and stretch the notions of how or what it is to 'don' Oxford.
