Unofficial George Town Arts Festival Opening Ceremony

The residency in Penang, Malaysia happily coincided with the George Town Arts Festival.

I decided the Festival needed an opening ceremony.

Inspired by George Town’s heterogeneous culture and struck by the fact the city reputedly celebrated over three hundred and sixty religious festivals a year, and in an attempt to celebrate and emulate all the wonders of the city, I made them a part mobile‐temple part carnival‐float, complete with josh sticks, bubble machine and revolving spinney things and drove it down the Arts Street in George Town.
